Jennifer Lopez and Shakira Set to Perform at Super Bowl Halftime Show
Jennifer Lopez and Shakira have booked some big Super Bowl plans. On Feb. 2, they’ll both perform at the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show, which will air on Fox and take place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
The two artists were the first chosen for the halftime show since the NFL formed a broad partnership last month with Jay-Z, the music impresario who will help produce entertainment at the Super Bowl and other prominent NFL events, and support the league’s social activism campaign, Inspire Change.
The booking of two Latina performers ties in well with the Super Bowl’s 2020 host city of Miami. Although Lopez is originally from the Bronx and Shakira from Colombia, Miami is widely recognized as the global capital of the Latin music business.
Lopez performed on Super Bowl eve in 2018 ahead of Justin Timberlake’s halftime show for the DIRECTVNOW Super Saturday Night concert. Shakira performed the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).”
Last year, Maroon 5 and Adam Levine did the honors at the halftime show. The last female headliner was Lady Gaga in 2017.
